We had 33 responses to our 2024 survey of music preferences 😊.
Here are all the scores, depicted in Radar Plots:
These "Radar Plots" show every score given by every respondee. The order of responses around the circle is random. There is radar plot for each musical genre. "Player" scores are in red; "Supporter" scores are in blue.
These plots show us the popularity of each genre, and also the amount of (dis)agreement amongst respondees
For example, the "Film / TV" radar plot indicates that this genre is popular (the scores are nearly all close to the outside of the circle), and that there is a large amount of agreement (the scores form a resonably nice circle rather than a spiky explosion!).
In contrast, the "Classical" radar plot is much more spiky, illustrating that there is disagreement amongst respondees.
Conclusions:
There is high correlation between a player's score and the score given by their supporters (the red and blue lines are often co-incident).
"Film / TV" and "Shows" are almost universally popular (large round nearly-circles).
There is much more disagreement across all the other musical genres.
Here is an analysis of the band players' preferences, depicted in a "Box and Whisker" Chart:
This "Box and Whisker" chart gives a statistical view of the results. Half of the responses (the middle two quartiles) are in the box. The mean (average) is shown by the 'X' in each box. If there is a whisker line above / below the box, that extends to the highest / lowest score (excluding outliers).
This chart lets us see at a glance the popularities of each genre, and how much (dis)agreement there is amongst respondees.
For example, the "Film / TV" genre is very popular (its box is near the top edge of the chart), and nearly everyone agrees (the box is small and has no whiskers at all!). Only one person scored it "2", which statistically is an outlier.
In contrast, the "Modern Pop & Rock" genre's box is large, and has whiskers extending all the way from a score of "0" to "5", illustrating that there is no agreement amongst respondees about this genre's popularity.
Conclusions:
"Film / TV" and "Shows" are conspicuous by their near-universal popularity.
All other genres attract a large amount of disagreement, all with scores ranging from "5" to "1" (or, in the case of "Modern Pop & Rock" from "5" to "0")
Comments:
There are a variety of comments on the survey responses, all of which can be seen in the table below.
The committee's summary of these comments would be "The band likes playing a wide variety of pieces, which give us a bit of a challenge".
Thanks to the band for participating in the survey!
